The beginning of 2021 is little different as compared to the previous years, by the simple choice I made. Like previous years, I didn’t jump into making any resolutions on the last day of the year, some of which used to last max for a week. It was small way of not setting myself up for failure. I was trying to be in the present moment more and I am so glad that it got reinforced in the Positivity Cafe meeting facilitated by Neelima. She made us do Wheel of Life exercise and while we all plotted our scores on different dimentions of our lives and had our reflections on how is it looking, where do we need to focus to feel the balance in our lives. Her mentioning of, “forever is composed of nows” qoute by Emily Dickinson, reinforced my conscious focus on the present moment.
Eckhard Tolle, the author of the book, “The Power of Now” also talks about that every minute we spend worrying about the future or regretting the past is a minute lost, because really all we have to live in is the present, the now, and gives us actionable strategies to start living every minute as it occurs.
Realise deeply that the present moment is all you have. Make the NOW the primary focus of your life.
The research also says, if you ask 100 people to name the two most common feelings they can think of, 99 of them would probably respond with regret and anxiety.
The reason we regret and worry about a lot of things lies in the way our minds work. The constant stream of consciousness and thoughts in our head, which plays 24/7 in our heads, is mostly preoccupied with 2 things: the past and the future.
When you think about it, the past is nothing more than all present moments that have gone by, and the future is just the collection of present moments waiting to arrive.
You cannot find yourself by going into the past. You can find yourself by coming into the present. Life is now. There was never a time when your life was not now, nor will there ever be.
The best time for new beginnings is NOW. What is one mini action you will take NOW.
